wow, I have soooo much to post about, lol! I know I'm slackin' again...oops :) Really, I probably should just give up on posting anything regularly...

As expected we are deep in the middle of wedding season right now. I'm going to post a few blogs on those when I can but I wanted to share something first.

Last month PPA held it's annual International Photographic Competition. This is only my second year entering so I was nervous. I'm thrilled to say that "Angel Eyes" was accepted into the Loan Collection! Also, "Paradox in Pride" and "Corroded Fallen Promises" both were accepted into the General Collection. This is really an honor and I'm speechless, which isn't an easy thing to do.

Local Photographer’s Work Goes to International Exhibition

A photograph created by Amy Feick of Twin Shutterbug Studios in Port Huron has recently been accepted into the Loan Collection of Professional Photographers of America's 2011 International Photographic Competition, and two additional photographs were accepted into the General Collection. Feick's work will be on display at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, January 15-17, 2012, in New Orleans, La. This exhibition is held in conjunction with Imaging USA, an annual convention of professional photographers and several photographic associations.

A panel of eminent jurors from across the United States selected the top photographs from more than 4,000 total submitted entries at Gwinnett Technical College in Georgia. Judged against a standard of excellence, over 1,500 images were selected for the General Collection and just over 600 (15 percent) were selected for the esteemed Loan Collection—the best of the best. The Loan Collection images will all be published in the much-anticipated “Loan Collection” book, and over 200 selected General Collection images will be published in the “Showcase” book by

Marathon Press.

Titled “Angel Eyes”, Parodox In Pride” and “Corroding Fallen Promises” Feick's entries will be in New Orleans at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center alongside other photographic works from PPA’s photographic competition and traveling and special invitational displays. These images constitute one of the world’s largest annual exhibits of professional photography

Well, I let last month slip by without writing a blog post. Oops. It was a pretty eventful month around here, one that may actually require 2 posts for :)

On top of all the last minute seniors, we had babies, kids, weddings, you name it. Taking a moment out of the day to write a blog was nearly impossible. But I want to share a few exciting things-

Last month I entered our District Competition. Districts preceed the IPC (International Photographic Competition) and any images that receive a seal at districts automatically receive a merit at IPC..pending the maker actually sending the print in :)

This was my first year sending to Districts, and to say I was nervous is an understatement. I second guessed my choices over and over, and almost didn't sent one print in at the last minute. I'm proud to say that my images did better than I could have ever expected.

Angel Eyes-

Received a score of 90 ("Superior"). Funny enough, this was the print I wasn't sure about sending in. I'm very glad I did! This was my highest scoring print.

Parodox in Pride

received a score of 88( "Excellent").

My other two prints received scores equaling "above average".

Honestly, it would take days to explain how these prints are scored and what they all mean. Just know that a score of 80(deserving of a merit) is all that is needed to get a seal. I'm honored that these two images will be hanging at the exhibit next year @Imaging USA. I've helped with the print set up crew 2 years in a row admiring the beautiful work. Next year I'll be able to see my own images there as well. Truly a blessing and an honor.

I finished my entry for the IPC last night, so now I just have to wait and hear how the other two images do, and if these two are selected for the Loan Collection. Whatever happens I'm okay with it. We shall see!

I just want to end this post with a thank you. I've been lucky enough to get to know some amazing clients and friends. I love my job, and I love creating great images for my clients. I truly appreciate everyone that trusts me to capture their life moments! Thank you!

a few changes, pt 1.

I feel like I'm always saying this but-it's been a busy few weeks. I'm starting to wonder if I thrive on the constant pressure of being busy....I really think I do! To check out a few of our latest sessions take a look at our facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/twinshutterbugstudios

Speaking of sneak peeks- I'm going to be making a few changes about how sneak peeks are done. With the exceptions of weddings I will no longer be posting images on our facebook page before the ordering session. There are several reasons for this, but one reason is some of the changes facebook has made regarding photos. So, you may not see anything new on my facebook for a little while. Once the client comes in and the order is paid in full and picked up, I will place the images they purchased on our facebook page.* I may possibly place one image from a session on our website in the appropriate gallery...so you'll just have to look :)

So on to the new things: First, I've got some office help, HOORAY! Amberly is going to be joining me a couple of days a week to help with customer interaction and office organization :) Exactly what this lil' artist needs, lol. I'm pretty excited and am \feeling a huge sense of relief. It's a great thing when your business grows. But I wasn't quite prepared for how quickly and how much our business was going to grow and I was starting to feel like I was drowning in the work. I'm beyond excited to bring Amberly on board, and I can't wait for all my awesome clients to get to meet her :) She has already been able to help me so much and I'm excited for all the changes. aaannd there goes March...

I'm pretty proud of myself....this is my third blog post this year, lol! Things have just been crazy, insanely busy around here. That is one big goal this year-getting office help :) One person can only do so much, right?

First-I got my letter on Thursday that I passed the Image Review portion to become a Certified Professional Photographer. I admit, I was extremely nervous when I opened the envelope. It's one thing to love what you do, it's another to have a committee say that your images meet the qualifications and standards of our profession. Next step will be to take the written exam. Wish me luck!

Second- I had some adorable kiddos come in for sessions this month. I got to photograph my cousin's sweet new addition, Baby C. What an adorable family they are! Baby C joins his big sister, Bella. He was probably the most peaceful baby I've ever photographed. You can see a few images from the session on our facebook page ttp://www.facebook.com/twinshutterbugstudios.

Lastly- A couple of weekends ago I was honored to assist my Mom and chaperone on a spiritual Catholic retreat for teens. The weekend away (from work, the computer and facebook) renewed my spirit and cleared my mind.

When I returned last Monday I did some deep soul searching. I came away from my experiences of the weekend with several changes I plan to make not only in myself but in the business. I think these changes will be welcomed and rejoiced by all our clients, new and old. Keep your eyes open over the next couple of weeks to learn more. anyone else tired of the snow?!

I know, I know, I live in Michigan I shouldn't complain about snow. But seriously, is it ever going to end?? Last week it all melted away and I was getting excited for spring. This week....another 8-12 inches got dumped on us. *sigh* I long for spring and summer and outdoor portraits!

We've had a couple of busy weeks here. I've gotten to photograph a couple of adorable kiddos, a few seniors and a couple of babies. Exciting :) If you are interested in newborn portraits at TSS call or email as soon as possible. Newborns take several hours to photograph so we can only do so many in a month. We don't want you to miss out!

So, my New Year Resolution is...........

To become a better blogger. I absolutely love sharing details about our sessions! But, I just get too busy and forget. I know, sad. I'm going to make a promise to start fresh. Even if it is already the middle of February ;) I admit, I'm much better about keeping our facebook current. It's probably the best place to keep up with the going-on's around here.

What an AWESOME wedding this weekend! Chelsey & Anthony reside in Florida but wanted their wedding to be in their hometown. We are so lucky they chose us to capture their wedding day.

Chelsey & Anthony decided to get all their photos done before hand. Amazing!! We love this because we get to really capture that "reveal" moment when the Bride & Groom see each other the first time. It was so nice to have plenty of time to create some great images. The whole wedding party was cooperative, and we traveled all over St.Clair County for photos. A little rain never stopped us either ;)

Alrighty, I think I'm ready to take a try at this bloggin' thing again :)

It's been a crazy year, and I just haven't had a chance to put any thoughts or words together, lol. We had our one year anniversary of being a "real" full time photography studio at the beginning of May. I'm amazed how quickly the time has flown by! Hopefully we several more years ahead of us :) I know I haven't posted anything in many, many months but there is no way I can catch up on all of that. So I'm just going to start over fresh!

We took a family vacation with my parents last week. It poured rain on us one night, but we had a nice time relaxing on the beach. We are so lucky to live on the Great Lakes!
We are preparing for a busy 2 months of more weddings, seniors, babies, families and everything in between. Hopefully we come out the other side still alive ;0)

Last weekend

We attended the St.Mary's fall festival in St. Clair. Growing up we knew when school started the festival was right around the corner. St.Mary's fall festival always signaled the beginning of 'the season' for us. I have many memories of the kids tent (which I sooooo greatly miss!) the cake walk, face painting...then as we got older it was riding the Paratrooper (we were always afraid someone would puke on our heads walking underneath it, lol), my first experience w/the Gravitron (which I admit is my most hated ride), and well, many more. *sigh*

We sponsored a Coffee House Saturday night in the Community Center. We had free coffee, cocoa, 'all the fixins' (as my Mother put it), sweet treats, etc. It was open for all ages and was a nice way to warm up from the rain. We plan on doing it again next year if you didn't get to stop by ;0)

Todd and I took the lil' man out on some rides. For those of you that have met him, you know he is just a peanut. There was one fun house that he was only a little bit (not even an inch) too short for. We tried convincing him to just follow his friends on, but he refused (he said he was scared he would get 'caught') so I went with. He had a blast and was on his way to the next trip thru alone, and the guy stopped him. Poor kid. I don't think the carnival worker (to put it in the polite term, lol) even noticed he was too short I just think he stopped him b/c he knew I went with him the first time. Of course, everyone around noticed, and a polite lady asked her "son" if he would go with lil' man into the *other* funhouse. He politely agreed-what a sweet boy. "Grandma"(who I thought was his mom) and I start chatting and come to find out, Lil Man and other Lil Man share the same birthday, and were only born 17 minutes apart! Crazy world!

Now on to the photography..

We had Amy & Caleb's wedding 09-19-09. It was beautiful! What an adorable couple they are :) We had a blast, and I must admit to being pretty sad at the end of the night.....I'm going to miss these two! They better come back and visit us when they have babies :)

Cori and Tim's Wedding was 9-12-09. I really wish I could describe the emotional high we were all feeling that day, but I can't. To capture my beautiful cousin on her wedding day was an honor I can't express. She was radiant, and Tim is quite the handsome man. What an awesome couple they make, and what an awesome day it was!

**see, I told ya I'm bad at this, lol! Here is the post I made at the end of August...

Well, August is slowly coming to a close...and I'm a little sad.

I really enjoyed this month, lol. We had 2 great weddings, and some awesome Senior sessions.

First was the surprise wedding (well, for us, lol!) of Andrea & Justin. Andrea contacted us a week before her wedding in an emergency search to find a photographer. While August was our busiest month for weddings last year that wasn't the case this year, so we had her date available.

What an amazing wedding! It may have rained for most of the early day, but cleared up just in time for us to get some pictures on the lake. We got some beautiful images at the Parents of the Groom's house, which was gorgeous. Then we headed to the Blue Water Bridge for some fun shots.

The reception was at Port Huron Golf Club in a tent out on the course. The tent was absolutely gorgeous, especially as night time fell and the candles were all lit. Christoper's Flowers did a fantastic job, of course!

The best part was the band the Bride & Groom hired from Georgia, Moby Dick. They are an 80's rock cover band playing mostly Journey, Poison, etc. They put on a fabulous show, it was so much fun....of course until they got shut down, lol. Gotta love the people of PH calling the cops on a wedding!

I have a confession to make..

..I'm not a very good blogger. What, me? I know you're really surprised :) j/k It's not that I don' t have a constant dialogue in my head that I could write about. By the time I get the few seconds to blog it out, I forget. Or maybe I just don't think that my life is that interesting? Either way, I wish I was better at sharing the Adventures of a Photographer, but I'm not....maybe someday...

We've had a really fun month! We took a little family get away to the cabin and visited w/my Aunt & Uncle as well. It was nice as Teta & Popow were on vaca as well (that would be my Mom & Dad). We went canoeing and had a blast. Todd sank the boat, lol. We were quite the sight to see- Todd trying to save our stuff, me grabbing Avery w/one foot in the canoe one in the water, and my other arm hanging on for dear life to the bag that had the camera in it! Luckily we saved everything and the camera came out unharmed...phew. It was nice for us to get away for a few days and regroup. It's been a very, very long time since we did that.

We are getting into the swing of Senior Portrait season. If there is one area of our business that I would love to grow, that is it. We totally enjoy Seniors and really strive to provide something unique for each client. We have some really cool new products and promos this year, so check 'em out.

Wedding season of course is already in full swing. We've been blessed w/fantastic brides. I love when we get to be part of the family. Of course, one wedding we have coming up *is* family! I'm beyond excited for Cori & Tim's wedding on Sept 12. Check out a few of their engagement photos below.

New Beginnings.......

Amazing....... I am now officially 'self employed'. I wish I could describe the freedom I feel! I don't know if I ever set out for this day to happen. I do know that I never wanted to work where I was for the rest of my life. I don't believe it has really settled in yet that I no longer will be working for The Big Telecom anymore. Wow, God is great! If you are out and about, stop in and check out the new studio. We are technically 'by appointment only' but if the door is unlocked and the sign says OPEN, c'mon in! I love to have visitors ;0)

We have been crankin' out the senior model sessions this past month. I really enjoy photographing seniors, I must admit they are some of my favorite sessions. I love the chance to capture how they are and we strive to offer something different from anyone else around. Check out a few samples from some of our recent sessions below. We want to congratulate our most recent brides and grooms! Lisa and Rodney were married May 30, 2009. It was a beautiful wedding at St.Joseph's church here in PH. We were blessed w/a beautiful couple, and they were a pleasure to work with. Pictures to come, but our lovely bride will get to see them first :)

Loni and Josh got hitched last weekend, June 6, 2009. Can you believe it was freezing cold!? Loni planned an amazingly gorgeous wedding. Loni hada peacock theme so there were beautiful feathers in all the arrangements, bouquets, etc. Christopher's Flowers did an amazing job. It was very beautiful, and if you don't believe me check out the photos below ;0)

AND- a big, huge congrats to Jared and Sarah on their engagement! We are sooo excited you want us to be a part of your day! Our family couldn't ask for better neighbors, really. We wish you both the best and cannot wait until your wedding!

Wow, we've had a pretty crazy month. We've moved into the new place and have already rearranged everything a hundred times. We are absolutely in L-O-V-E- with the space, and we are lovin' being right downtown! It's been pretty hectic around here, but only a few more weeks and the studio will be our full time job!

New beginnings

Wow, it's been a crazy couple of months! It's been awhile since I updated the blog, and I apologize. We've been consumed with numerous things lately.......

If you haven't heard already, we've now moved our studio to downtown Port Huron. We are beyond excited! We officially began the move May 1st and have been arranging the space to make it 'ours'. Our new home is 227 Huron Ave.

We plan to have an entirely new product line including gallery wraps, photo bags, jewelry and much, much more! Our goal is to provide each client an entirely unique experience. Our new studio is 3,000 sq ft and will have 2 camera rooms with numerous backgrounds. We will also have a projection room for viewing your images! It has become near impossible to juggle working and running the studio so to provide our clients with the kind of experience and service they deserve we will also become a full time studio in June. We are hoping you will find our new space comforting and inviting!

We will be having a Sneak Peek Event May 17th to showcase our new space and boutique products. We will have special promotions, prizes, and unique giveaways for each client. Come and join us!

WPPI 2009 has come to an end...

.... well, for us at least, lol! We left late last night (really it was early this morning) and arrived home in chilly MI this afternoon. We are extremely tired!

This was our first chance to attend the WPPI conference. I am so grateful we went! Todd wasn't sure if we were 'good enough' or 'big enough' to go, but I figured now was the time to learn. I know we learned some amazing techniques that we are very excited to utilize.

My favorite seminar of the conference was on Wednesday morning, our last day there. We attending Vicki Taufer's platform on "The Art of You". Todd and I both found it very inspiring and reassuring. We are now confident to be who we are w/our art, instead of trying to "be everything to everyone". I think this has inspired us to want to make some significant changes with our business, which we are hoping will provide an amazing customer experience, and an amazing artistic experience for us. We promise more info on this in the near future.

Todd also really enjoyed Cliff Mautner's seminar "Let there be light". He learned some great techniques, and really appreciated Cliff's casual style. Todd said he appreciated Cliff saying that he gets "bored w/his photos", and he only has "a few that are any good". Todd said of course Cliff's work was amazing, but loved how he was so much like us-never satisfied w/his work.

Jessica also attended some great marketing seminars. It has given us the confidence to know that many of our ideas were headed in the right direction and we just need to implement them.

The only roadblock we have in fulfilling our dreams of how we want our business to be is the fact that as of right now we are part time. We have become fully aware that in order for our business to grow appropriately and for us to provide the amazing experience we want, that I need to be unemployed elsewhere and photography needs to be IT. As of now, of course the studio is where my priorities lie, and I know that working anywhere else isn't fair to my business, or my employer. Everything in the next few months will be of one goal; to get us to become a full time studio, providing a unique customer experience from beginning to end.

I muse say I am on overload, and need a nap. So on that note, here are few of the images from our amazing, in Vegas!!

Tessa & Mark December 13, 2008

Welcome to 2009 everyone! I wish I was better at posting, but sometimes I just don't have much to say ;) So that is one of my resolutions, although I am not off to a good start. Heck, I don't even know if anyone ever reads this blog.

As I said in the last post, December was a busy month for us. We had two weddings, so we didn't do any Christmas portraits. That's okay though, we still were busy enough for our heads to spin off, lol!

So, to the title of this thread...Tessa & Mark. Seriously folks, we couldn't have asked for a better couple. I like to sound all poetic and say it was fate that brought Tess to us...and I believe it was. Cheesy, yes, but I think it's the truth!

They had a beautiful wedding December 13th at the Ritz Carlton in Dearborn. For Todd and I it was reminiscent of our own wedding 5 years earlier, also in December.

Right before the ceremony Tess & her bridesmaids were having a toast. The girls asked me as the only married woman in the room if I had any advice for Tess. My advice? "Never give up."

Congrats to Tessa & Mark. This couple has true adoration and admiration for each other. It should be a lesson to us all!

Angela & Don December 6, 2008

We've had so many great memories this month that I think I'll break it up into a couple of posts. Nobody minds, right? ;0)

We started with the wedding of Angela & Don on December 6th. It was a gorgeous day, perfect for a winter wedding. The snow fell down light and fluffy and the wind was calm. What a dream!
This was actually my first time photographing a wedding in my church. My Mother is the Youth Minister for the parish, ( St. Theresa as we like to call her) so it was nice to be in a place that felt comfortable and working with people we knew. The reception was simple, small, and elegant. The room was filled with those that truly loved the bride & groom and that is a very special gift.

We have been blessed with some of the best couples, honestly. We are lucky! Angela & Don were no exception. They have a beautiful family (some of the sweetest kids you've ever seen!) and we wish them all many years of happiness and joy!

..its cold! Last week we hit almost 80; this week we'll be lucky to get 45. I don't mind winter, I love the snow. But I don't really care for bitter cold. I wish it could stay fall all year around!

On another note, unfortunately we have decided to not offer Christmas pictures this year. We are restricted by the limited number of days we can work in a month, and we are already booked solid for November. With the two weddings we have next month it became apparent that there wouldn't be any time. Hopefully by next year we won't have the same time constrictions and can bring back the holiday portraits.

I am very excited for the sessions we have this weekend. My cousin Mandy is bringing her kids in. Her lil' baby Abby just turned 1, and I can't wait to get some images of her. In fact, I can't wait to get images of all three of her kids!

October is my favorite month

*sigh* I love October! Its by far my favorite month. I traveled with my good friend JP to Texas last month. We went to visit our good friend Jamie, but that isn't all we did on our long weekend!

Saturday we took a road trip to Austin for a wedding. I also got to meet many friends from an online community that I've been a part of for almost 5 years now. It was an amazing experience! Our bride traveled all the way from Australia to meet us all, and decided to get married on her trip. Congrats!!

We also went to *ahem* a NKOTB concert. Oh yes, New Kids On The Block! I'm going to be honest; it was pretty awesome. Those 'kids' are just as hot as they were when I was 11, lol! We had a suite, so we were actually pretty far away, but I think I managed to get some decent pictures.

I had an amazing trip. It was good to be away from life for awhile. Things were (are) getting pretty stressful and crazy around here.

The weekend after we returned I had Courtney & Kurt's wedding. It was a nice, relaxing event. These two are both calm and casual, which I totally loved about them. We still had some beautiful fall colors that were great for some portraits, even though it was bitter cold out. I'm so grateful we got to be a part of their day!

And lastly, a little note; today is my lil' man's birthday. I am amazed that my sweet baby is already 4!! I'm so proud of the little person he is becoming but it is very bittersweet to watch him grow. Happy Birthday Avery!

I love fall!

I love the smell of fall! I wish it stayed like this all year 'round. The hubby and I plan on taking a lil' trip to get some pictures of the amazing fall colors. This is a fantastic time of year to get some family pictures!

Next month I will be traveling with some friends to Texas. I've only flown 4 times in my life. We will be traveling from Dallas to Austin for a wedding. Some friends have traveled all the way from Australia, and are tying the knot in Good Ol' Texas!

Then the following weekend I have a wedding in Lexington. I'm certain the end of October will be a beautiful time for wedding, and Lexington is an adorable town. I'm very excited for this one. The couple seems like fun, laidback people. The perfect kind of bride and groom to work with!

This past weekend we had Taylor's Wedding and the Armada bridal show the next day. The wedding was great! The bridal show....interesting. Oh, don't get me wrong, the bride's that came by were wonderful, but this was our first experience doing a show. We now know maybe what to do differently next time. It definitely got our minds going with some great new ideas!

I know its only barely October, but I just wanted to give a huge THANK YOU to all of our clients, friends, family, etc. We have had an amazing year, with amazing clients and great growth. We've learned a lot along the way, and certainly made some mistakes. I know its been stressful for us, but in the most rewarding way, lol! We are planning on going full time (WHOO HOO!!!!) sometime next year, probably around May. We are getting busy enough that we just don't have enough time in the day. I am amazed every day that others allow me to share their lives with them. It truly is a blessing! We are going to be making a huge jump as a family with the decision to quit my job, so any prayers you could send our way would be greatly appreciated!

We had a fabulously fun August

Last month was full of weddings, seniors, and portraits, and we had a blast! Our good friends Sarah & Nick tied the knot August 23rd. It was a long awaited day and everything was amazingly beautiful. Congrats to both of them!

We had Julie's wedding today (yay for the raining hold off *just* long enough!) and Taylor's wedding this coming Saturday. Then, (phew!) the bridal show in Armada on Sunday. This is a first for us, so wish us luck!

We have a crazy, fun new idea for a photo shoot. We want brides (heck, even if you didn't come to us!) that wanna have some fun. We promise this isn't like the "trash the dress" shoots you've heard about! Contact us if you are interested and want more information....until then it's top secret!

** lastly; we are going to be running a Christmas in October special. We want to get a head start on the Christmas season so you don't have to worry about portraits and can get back to shopping! Weddings, Weddings, and more Weddings!

My goodness! I haven't updated in awhile, things have just been so busy we haven't had a chance. We are coming to an end of a very busy wedding season. Sarah and Nick's wedding is this weekend, and we are very excited!

One thing this wedding season has taught us; the more time we spend with the bride and groom before, the more comfortable we all are on D-Day. Sara and Duane's wedding is a great example of this.We had met and been in contact with them numerous times throughout the year. We both were so relaxed, and everyone was so easy to work with, which makes our job that much easier, lol! We want to thank them both for giving us a chance and letting us be a part of their day.

I've really personally been enjoying capturing dance shots lately. Every wedding I like to try something new, and those are good to experiment on. There is something so magical about the lights and movement that make each image totally unique.

I'm very grateful that my wonderful husband has been shooting weddings with me. It is very comforting to have my partner along side me on the job as well. We found we work much better together than I ever thought we would, lol!
